Lightning surges are caused by switching transients and lightning transients in power systems. The purpose of surge immunity test is to establish a common benchmark to evaluate the performance of electrical and electronic equipment when subjected to surges (shocks). According to the general requirements of standard IEC/EN 61000-4-5 surge immunity test, a lightning surge generator simulates combination wave (1.2/50μs voltage waveform, 8/20μs current waveform) and telecommunication wave (10/700μs voltage waveform, 5/320μs current waveform), through the coupling network, the waveform is coupled to the circuit under test, which can achieve the experimental purpose. EMCSOSIN EMC laboratory can provide customers with surge test solutions of various combination waveform.

Lightning surge generator test results
Lightning surge generator test is a destructive test, according to the degree of damage, results of the tests are judged by the following criteria:
a) normal performance;
b) temporary loss of function or temporary degradation of performance not requiring an
operator;
c) temporary loss of function or temporary degradation of performance requiring an operator;
d) loss of function with permanent damage to equipment (which means failing the test).
