The source of surge generator test items
1) Direct or indirect lightning strikes a primary high-voltage system or a secondary low-voltage power supply line or a communication line.
2) Discharge between clouds in the air or between clouds and the ground, and the ground current will enter the grounding wire.
3) Switching operations such as capacitor bank switching, thyristor on/off, equipment and system short circuits to the grounding, and arc faults can also generate transient overvoltage or overcurrent on the power grid.
4) The surge is pulse-shaped, with a rise time of microseconds, a pulse half peak time ranging from tens of microseconds to hundreds of microseconds, and a pulse amplitude ranging from a few hundred volts to tens of thousands of volts. The energy is particularly large.
Test requirements for lightning surge generator
1) For equipment that is prone to counterattack when the ground potential rises due to lightning strikes, a direct lightning counterattack simulation test shall be carried out, using a 1.2/50μs waveform.
2) For equipment connected to signal/telecommunication lines, using 10/700μs waveform.
3) Lightning protection device for signal transmission lines of outdoor signal equipment, using 8/20μs impulse current waveform.
